Whether you're looking for CG Textures, a background for a web page, something to give your graphic art real depth or just nice wallpaper for your PC, there are many thousands of free textures available from the many sites providing them. textures Typical textures include metal, grunge, bricks and blocks, plaster, flaking paint, stone and rock, asphalt and concrete, although many of the online resources will have a great many more categories than this. The only limits to their usage will be your creativity. Some are royalty free and need to be paid for, but many can be found for free. However, finding free backgrounds and textures can be difficult if you don't know where to look. You need to ensure that any images you intend to use are either copyright free or licensed to be used in the way that you wish and are of a high enough quality for print. Here are some handy tips for finding the perfect free texture photos. Firstly, do not use Google Images or other search engines - you do not know if images you find there are freely available to use, and chances are they are not and are protected by copyright. Always check the Terms of Use for the backgrounds and textures you intend to use - some sites only offer images that are free for personal use and others, also offer commercial usage for free. Check whether or not a credit or back link is required. Even if it isn't you might consider providing one as it shows you respect other people's work and you are helping to promote to the producer of the image you are using. If it's free background and texture images you're looking for you need to ensure that they are indeed free and not just royalty-free. A royalty-free image will still need to be paid for, however once you have you will be able to use it again and again without further payment (like traditional rights-managed images). Some CG Textures will not be high resolution enough for print jobs, so also check that the resolution of the image you are using for your background will be high enough for your needs.
